The workshop on open prison was organized on 4th of April at Bawarchi, Babarmahal Revisited. It was organized by Department of Prison management (DoPM) in Support of Humanity and Inclusion (HI) and Centre for Victims of Torture (CVICT) Nepal. The representatives from Office of Prime minister, Ministry of law and Justice, Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of Attorney General , Supreme Court, National Human Rights Commission, United Nation Development Program and Nepal Bar were present in the workshop.
The workshop was chaired by the acting director general of Department of Prison Management, Krishna Prasad Acharya. Three resource person presented the paper on Open Prison. Ex-director general of DoPM Krishna Chandra Ghimire presented the paper on “Open Prison: concept, legal aspects and Implementation Status in Nepal”, District judge, Shree prakash Upreti presented the paper on “Open prison: Concept, legal provisions, practices and challenges” and Rajesh kumar Katuwal, under-secretary of office of attorney general presented the paper on “Open Prison: procedural aspect, its implementation challenges and possibilities.”
The participant discussed about the paper presented and also discussed about the possible model of open prison in Nepal. The implementation challenges and possibilities were also discussed in the workshop.
