The interaction workshop with lawmakers (province No.3) on policy reform of prison under the project “Promoting Human Rights of Detainees and Prisoners in Nepal was organized on 7th June at State 3’s capital, Hetauda. It was organized by Department of Prison management (DoPM) with financially supported from European Union and Technical Support by Humanity and Inclusion (HI) and in coordination with CVICT- Nepal, WOSCC and CIVIC forum.
while inaugurating the workshop the chief guest, minister of internal affairs and law (province No.3) Salikram Jamarkatel stated that law and policy regarding the prison reform has not been fully developed and still the classification of crime and punishment has not been done. Because of this all kinds of inmates and detainees are kept in same place which doesnot help to bring the positive change in inmates. He strongly recommended to classified the crime and keep inmates separately according to the crime. He informed that he is studying regarding promulgating the laws and policy for the protection and promoting of human rights of inmates.
Lawmakers of provincial assembly also expressed their commitment for addressing the problem of inmates and prison and work for the protection and promotion of human rights of detainees and prisoners.
